About San Francisco Urban Nature

Nature (n): the phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the landscape, and other features and products of the earth, as opposed to humans or human creations.

Having worked in our local National Park, I found my attention refocused from the man-made to the beauty and growth all around us. What a relief for me to find flowers in the pavement; ferns in the wall cracks; and life everywhere. Once I started seeing these small wonders hidden in plain sight, I found moments of peace and calm that connected me – albeit briefly – to the larger areas of unspoiled natural beauty.

This year, I am taking it as a challenge to find and document these moments of natural beauty within this densely populated urban area. I hope to train myself to see more holistically, and perhaps become a better photographer in the process. And if I have any readership, I also hope that it will inspire you to look more closely to find the earth beneath the pavement.
